Cover picture. Ectopic shoots originated from the prirnordia of primary rachis branches in pUntochron I (plul). In the reproductive phase of plul. following the flag leaf differentiation, prirnordia of primary rachis branches initiate normally in spiral phyllotaxy (see the lower panel). However, prolonged vegetative program converts these primary branch prirnordia into vegetative shoots. Accordingly, it is considered that PLAI is a heterochronic gene involved in the termination of vegetative phasL-(See Res. Note 51)
